PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
