Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
